ZIP code — The U.S. Post office's way of breaking down the country geographically by means of a five-digit code at the end of an address.

ZIP code count — A breakdown of names on a mailing list to give quantities by ZIP code.

ZIP code omission — A means of geographical targeting by suppressing certain ZIP codes from a list.

ZIP +4 code — A five-digit ZIP code with a four-digit suffix which further targets the recipient, sometimes to a specific building.

Zip select — A selection option that chooses names and addresses based on ZIP codes they are in. For a mailer who wants to mail locally the selection can be made by listing the desired ZIP codes with the order. For national mailers who are targeting hundreds of ZIP codes around the country it is usually required that a tape having the desired ZIP codes is included with the order.

ZIP string — A cost-saving method of obtaining data from compilers who have minimum charges per list, by merging the desired selects into one string.
